Most women want to have a baby and some point and when it times it doesn’t always work out that conceiving is easy. If you are struggling to conceive and need some pointers, this article has 5 tips on making pregnancy that little easier to get.

1. Look After Your Health
– The number one thing to do before any other thing is to look after your health. In the Western world, most people are unhealthy and overweight. These 2 things alone will make it less likely that you will conceive. You have to face reality, get your own health in check before trying to bring another human into the world. Lose weight, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and cut out the alcohol and drugs. You also need to make sure you get regular exercise, plenty of sleep and try to cut out stress as much as possible. If you can’t find ways to cope, as stress can have a huge impact of your health and well being and make it less likely that you will conceive.

2. Don’t Rely On The Calendar – Many people like to use the calendar method to chart when they are ovulating and thus help them find the best time to have sex and conceive. Unfortunately this is an inaccurate way of predicting ovulation as it relies on the fact that one has a regular 28 day cycle. Every woman’s cycle is different and many women experience irregular cycles.

3. Use An Ovulation Prediction Kit – An ovulation prediction kit is a much more accurate way of determining ovulation. It predicts it by measuring the level of a hormone that is abundant and the time of ovulation. Most kits work in the same way that a home pregnancy test works.

4. Have Sex Just Before Ovulation Not After – Many people get confused about the best time to have sex. You have such a small window of opportunity – an egg will survive for 24 hours – that it is best to have sex just before ovulation. This is because sperm can survive for 3 to 5 days, so having sex before will help make it more likely you will conceive.

5. Have Sex Regularly – It is also a good idea to have sex regularly e.g. 3 times a week. This is because although you may be able to predict when you are ovulating you may not get it right every time. Having sex regularly will increase your likelihood to conceive and cover all bases, just incase you make a mistake.

In this day and age, many people find themselves struggling with trying to conceive. Pregnancy doesn’t have to be a battle that you can’t win. You just need to start looking after yourself and making a commitment to ensuring you give yourself the best possible chance.

This articles gives you 5 tips on how to succeed in getting pregnant.

1. Have Sex Regularly – Having sex as often as possible is a good way to edge the chances in your favour. A lot of the time, couples will try to time their sex sessions around the time the woman is ovulating. Of course this is a good idea, but many times a woman isn’t necessarily ovulating when she thinks she is and so to cover all bases and give yourself the best chance it is a good idea to have sex regularly. Try having sex three times a week for a good comfortable amount which doesn’t put too much pressure on you both.

2. Have Sex Before Ovulation – Some times there is confusion about the best time to have sex in relation to ovulation. You have a small window of opportunity in each month to conceive and after a woman ovulates the egg can survive up to 24 hours. Fortunately sperm can live for 3 – 5 days so if you have sex before ovulation you still have a pretty good chance of conceiving. There is no reason to wait until the day you ovulate to have sex when sperm can last for that long.

3. Use an ovulation prediction kit – An ovulation prediction kit will help you pinpoint exactly when you are ovulating so will improve your chances of conceiving. These kits work by taking a measurement of a particular hormone that is high when ovulation occurs. Kits are extremely easy to use and are often used in the same way that a pregnancy test is.

4. Forget The Calendar Method for Ovulation Prediction – Using a calendar to work out when you ovulate is a very inaccurate way to predict ovulation. Not everyone has a 28 day cycle or has a regular cycle, so trying to predict on that is going to fail. Watching for signs of ovulation or using a prediction kit is your best bet.

5. Enjoy Sex – Besides making sure you have sex regularly, it is a good idea that you enjoy it. If sex isn’t enjoyable then wants the point?! Orgasm during sex or orgasming together will help pull the sperm into the uterus and also make you feel wonderful and less like you are doing it out of obligation.

As a new parent you will experience many ups and downs with your child and they will experience many cuts, bruises and grazes but hopefully not anything too serious.

However it is always best to prepare for any situation as the first few moments of an emergency can mean life or death in some situations.

Taking a first aid course is a great way to be aware and prepared for household issues that could arise but there are also things you can do to prevent issues from happening in the first place. For example, stop using toxic cleaning products. Instead opt for homemade cleaners like lemon juice or bicarbonate of soda and avoid anything that store bought that be an irritant or toxic to your child. This will ensure that if they just so happen to get a hold of anything it won’t be life or death.

Some things you can’t avoid but if you know how to handle it, things will be fine. Most kids will end up with several hundred scrapes, cuts and maybe bites in their childhood. Wiping the area with disinfectant or tee tree oil dabbed on a piece of tissue and then putting a plaster over it is usually enough. If it is an animal bite that has occurred this needs to be monitored carefully and you may be best calling a Doctor depending on the animal.

For burns that may happen, there are 3 types: first, second and third degree. First degree burns are when the skin gets red but doesn’t break and second degree is when the skin becomes blistered. Third degree burns are when a burn penetrates the skin on a much deeper level and the burn is black. First degree burns are the only burns you can safely treat at home. If in doubt always go to A&E or seek medical advice.

For a first degree burn, the first thing to do is to run it under cold water for ten minutes. If it is a large burn immersing it in cold water for 10 minutes is easier. Ice can cause damage so only use cold water and do not add ice. This is to help get the heat out of the burn. Avoid putting creams on to it as this normally helps trap the heat in the skin and this is what you want to avoid.

If your child gets a chemical burn or an electrical burn always seek medical help as these can look minor but in fact much more serious. You can cool the burn first but afterwards seeking a Doctor is important.

If you suspect your child has a broken bone you should try to keep it still by using a splint. Try to use whatever you have in the house that can be put against the bone to keep it straight e.g. a rolled up newspaper or stick. Do not try to reposition a bone leave this for the experts. Try not to move your child as well or put them in their baby cot bed.

These are only some of things you could come across but it is well worth being prepared.

As baby grows and starts to move you will soon discover that a lot of the things in your house are extremely dangerous and you will need to do your best to babyproof the house.

Your best bet is to start now and to work out what will be a problem once your child starts moving. You won’t catch everything but if you get down on your hands and knees and see things from a baby’s perspective, you might be able to catch most of the dangers that would lie ahead for your child.

You may want to restrict the rooms that your child goes in at first. Generally as most people spend their time in the living room you could put a baby gate up for the kitchen and other places that are unsafe for your baby to crawl or walk into. However if you are a stay at home mother or on your own a lot with your child, you will find that making sure every room is baby safe is important.

Try to move anything valuable out of your child’s reach. If you collect ornaments and other easily broken things, try to put them high up so that your child can’t reach them. Babies and children will grab anything that gets their attention. You may also want to bolt down bookshelves and any other free standing furniture that could topple over if your child uses it to get to their feet or to hold onto. Radiators will also be an issue in the winter particularly, so getting covers or making sure baby can’t get near them is a good thing to take into account.

When it comes to the kitchen, it may be easier to keep it a baby free zone, however if you simply can’t and your baby doesn’t want to sit happily playing in his/her high chair then you might want to take the following precautions:

  • Get an oven lock and covers so that baby can’t open it or hurt him/herself.
  • Try to use to the back burners only whenever possible, so that your child is less likely to get burnt.
  • Install safety locks on your low cabinets but have one cabinet full of pots and pans that your child can happily play with. Having a cupboard that can be keep baby preoccupied will prevent them getting up to other mischief and hurting themselves.
  • Don’t hold your baby while cooking to avoid anything accidents or sudden movements.
  • Try to use plastic glasses and dishes to avoid breakages that will certainly occur with a baby in the house.

When it comes to the living room there are other things you can do to keep baby safe. Try to only have edible plants in the living room and if not put the others out of reach. Some species can cause illness or even death if eaten to you may want to check that your plants don’t fall under these categories.

Padding the corners of the coffee table and chairs will help avoid nasty bumps to baby’s head.

You may also want to consider safety when it comes to your baby’s furniture like their baby cot bed and changing unit depending on what you have bought.

When having a new baby, you really do not realise how much work it is until they arrive. It can feel overwhelming when you need to catch up on your sleep, rest, do housework, fix food for yourself as well as trying to keep up with the demands of a newborn.

This article gives you tips on how to cope.

Accept the realities – first it is important to accept the position you are in. You may be miserable without your sleep or having to put someone constantly before yourself, but this stage passes quickly – more so than it feels at first. Try to focus on enjoying the time and don’t worry about routines. Just go with the flow and things will adjust quickly.

Rely On Others – When there is a new arrival in the family, family should be there to help you out and make sure things are easier. If your family offer to clean for you or cook for you – accept it. It will be a much needed break. If they don’t offer, don’t be afraid to ask and try to rely on people at this time. Also try to keep in touch with friends so that you have people to talk to if you are feeling a little overwhelmed.  Newborn’s don’t like to be put down into their baby cot bed or wherever else you put them – they like to be held all the time, so to have lots of people on hand to do this is great.

Cut Corners or Accept Mess – Try not to let it stress you that you haven’t vaccummed in over a week or the house is a little messy. Let it go, your baby is more important and tidiness isn’t. It can be tough but it is ok to have a messy house and you shouldn’t like you have to keep up appearances with your home. If it bothers you too much, try and get family to help out.

Get Out Of The House – One of the best things I did when I had my son was to go out on a walk everyday. I put him in a sling and went for a walk. This helped his colic and helped me calm down when I felt like a bad mother or unable to cope. Getting out of the house will make you feel like you have taken a much needed breather.

You Can’t Spoil A Baby – Despite what many people might try to tell you, it is impossible to spoil a baby. Responding to your newborn’s every need is important and not something to stress over. Go with your own natural instincts and trust yourself. YOU know best.

Being a new parent is stressful but relying on others, accepting mess and trying to focus on what is important will get you through it.

Breastfeeding is a natural component of being a mother but it is far from normal. The majority of mothers in the Western world choose formula and those who do breastfeed will give it up fairly quickly.

There are many reasons and explanations to this. Depending on where you are from, many people are against breasts being displayed in public and even though laws are in place that favour the nursing mother, it can be daunting to go against the grain. Mothers also find that their family are unsupportive and shun them. Some families find breastfeeding a 1 year old to be disgusting, when in reality it is the most natural thing in the world.

There is also a lack of understanding about nursing and milk supply. Many women give up nursing, thinking that they aren’t supplying enough milk. Unfortunately, as a result of formula and as a result of just being human, we have an obsession over making sure that our baby is getting enough and we prefer it if we could measure it. We need to learn to trust our baby and not get hung up on ounces and quantities. It isn’t necessary to work out how much your child is getting – they know what they need, so trust them.
If there is a problem with milk supply, the most common reason is dehydration. It is very important for a nursing mother to drink plenty of water. It is also important for a mother eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables to provide a nutritious supply.

If you think your breastmilk supply is waning ask yourself why? Generally a lot of indicators of low supply do not necessarily mean low supply. Your body also accommodates depending on your baby’s needs and how often and how much they feed – so you make a constant supply. This is why it is called supply on demand.

Generally after the first few weeks of full breasts that give your child plenty of milk and more, your breasts will return to “normal”. They may not get full like they did in the first few weeks and they will just look like normal breasts. This doesn’t mean that your supply is low or waning at all. You will make plenty of milk, just that your body has adapted to how your baby feeds and how much they need.
Sometimes it might feel like your baby is sucking your completely dry and this could be an indication of a growth spurt. There is no reason to worry that your baby isn’t getting enough because your body will be aware of this extra need and accommodate accordingly.
If, despite the information here, you still worry about your milk supply the best thing you can do is talk to one of the advisors who works for the La Leche League. This is a breastfeeding organisation that can be very supportive for first time mothers, especially if you lack the support you require to continue to nurse your child.

To make breastfeeding easier, you can also buy a baby cot bed that attaches to your bed so that you do not have to get up in the night.  Check out our reviews for more information.

In this day and age, a baby sling has become a popular piece of equipment for a new baby. Not only does it provide away to attend to your child’s needs but be hands free it also has become fairly fashionable to wear your baby.

This article goes over some of the pros to baby wearing and why it is a good thing for your child.

1. You Can Get On With Your Life – A sling is a great way to multitask. During the first 6 months of life, a baby needs the most attention as they become accustomed to the outside world. Most babies want to be close to their mother at all times. My son was always carried during the first few months and if he wasn’t laying on me he would be on my Husband, father, sister, brother etc. Someone always held him. Using a sling allows you to attend to the needs of your child but at the same time get housework done or other work that needs to be done. This means you do not have to wait until baby is sleep and also means that when your child does take a nap you can too because all the work will be done.

2. Less Distress For Your Baby – When a newborn is constantly close to their mother, there is no need to scream for attention. Babies who are left in a cot will panic upon waking when they realize that their mother isn’t with them. This is because babies do not know they are safe. They only know that they are safe by feeling their mother’s touch. If you are carrying your child in a sling and they wake, they will soothed by their mother’s touch. This means they will have less distress in their lives and feel safer.

3. Less Hassle Than A Pushchair
– Although a pushchair can be handy when you need to go grocery shopping, generally a sling is a much better investment. You can easily get on a bus with a sling, go through crowded shops and get around more easily. There is no need to try and manoeuvre a pushchair around several thousand people or squeeze through isles.

4. Promotes Physical Development
– When a baby is in a baby sling instead of in a baby cot bed all the time, he is very close to his mother and thus in tune with her breathing, heartbeat and movements. This helps your child to regulate their own movements, breathing and heartbeat. The sling is a great transitional tool to help your child cope with being outside of the womb. Similar equipment such as mechanical swings do not work in the same way because it does not give babies the closeness they need with their mother. Also research has shown that premature babies thrive and gain weight best when they are held continuously. A sling is a great way to make this happen.

When it comes to shoes, regardless of who they are for, there sure is a lot of choice. The problem is a lot of the shoes out there are just not very good for the health of your feet.

Many are stiff, too thin for our feet and do not give us adequate room. This is even more crucial for a toddler so picking footwear that is going to ensure that your toddler’s feet can grow well and be healthy is important.

When picking out toddler shoes make sure that the sole is flexible. Try to avoid stiff shoes that have no flexibility and also if possible one’s that have minimal flexibility too. Going for shoes that allow your child to walk as they would barefoot is key. Rubber soles are usually best for this. There are many brands these days that cater specifically to ensure that a growing foot can move about. There are also shoes that have suede soles but these are only suitable for dry weather as they are not waterproof. These will however give your child’s feet the flexibility they would have if completely barefoot and can be even worn in a baby cot bed.

A baby’s foot is entirely different to an adults. Whereas an adult’s is formed and the bones hardened, a child’s foot is composed of cartilage that is flexible. As a child grows this hardens. If you put your child in shoes that are too tight or too rigid, you can change the way your child’s foot forms and this can cause problems later in life. This is why it is recommended to let your toddler be barefoot whenever possible.

Besides flexibility, make sure there is plenty room for your toddler’s toes. The more room the better. You should also try to pick shoes that are lightweight and not so heavy.

Besides picking good flexible footwear, it is also a good idea to let your toddler be barefoot as much as possible. Let them be barefoot in the garden, the house and just whenever it is convenient. Allowing your child to be free from shoes as much as possible will ensure good foot growth and health. It can help prevent common foot conditions created and caused by poor stiff footwear.

Many parents have so many concerns when it comes to parenting that feet are often overlooked but they are important. Don’t get cheap shoes – shoes are much more important than clothing. Clothes can’t change the way your child is shaped, but rigid shoes can – so be carefully what you put on them.

One of the biggest things to be considered when you have a baby is safety. I remember when my son was born, I took a look around my living room and couldn’t see anything that could be dangerous, so figured I didn’t need to do anything to ensure baby safety.

I soon discovered as my son started to crawl and then walk, how many things are actually dangerous to babies. It is pretty ridiculous and you can really not consider what exactly is dangerous until you either see your baby show you how even the most harmless thing can be or get down on all fours and start working it out for yourself. It seemed that everything caused an issue.

Your best option with a baby is first to have baby gate so they can’t get into the kitchen. The kitchen is even worse than the living room, so just keep them cut off from it as much as possible.

Then it is best to consider living minimally. The more clutter you have, the more danger there is and the more annoyance you will incur. It isn’t funny trying to keep every little thing away from your baby. Luckily I have never been one for ornaments and have a pretty minimalist household, however unfortunately my friends don’t so soon discovered how much worse things could have been for me if I had decided to collect ornaments or have a huge selections of CDs and DVDs. Don’t put yourself through it! Try to keep those types of things high up and out of the way.

There, of course, is also the stairs. Make sure that if your child climbs up the stairs you can supervise. I went through a period of having only one stair gate (one broke) which became a nuisance at night. We always kept it at the bottom of the stairs and so when we put our son to bed at night I would always be attentively listening to hear if he had woken up for fear he might fall down the stairs (my son never slept in a baby cot bed, he slept in our baby – a mattress on the floor). Luckily I was super attentive, but it didn’t make for a very relaxed evening and one time I only just got there in time. Luckily it wasn’t long before I managed to get hold of another stair gate that I was allowed to have in our rented home.

Many people feel that plug sockets are also a danger to babies but there is information that suggests that they aren’t and only become dangerous when you use those plug socket protectors. Here is article on that: are plug socket covers safe?
Keeping your baby safe in the home can be a nightmare, so my best tip to you is to keep your house clutterless, minimalist and keep things you love dearly out of reach!
