Cots for babies: Things to consider when buying a baby cot bed for your baby.

A newborn baby requires a lot of things and one of those things can be a cot. Choosing cots for babies can be difficult to do especially when one has to take into consideration the cost and where we are going to have the baby cot bed for the baby placed.

There are plenty of cots for babies to choose from on the market so it can be quite confusing. The number one concern though should be whether the product has a safety certificate, as you wouldn’t want it collapsing or being a healthy hazard to your child. The baby cot should be strong, sturdy without any loose parts of cracks. Of course if you are looking for a travel cot then it should be lightweight, comfortable and compact. An added bonus would be for it to be easy to set up!

Below are some of the cots for babies that you can get on the market. Looking at the different types can help you decide which one will fit yours and your baby’s needs.

Travel or Carry Cot – A travel or carrycot is an ideal first cot because it can be easily transported from room to room. With a new born that sleeps for most of the day, this is a great option as it means you can move her or him around the house while you do housework etc.

Co-Sleeper Cot – A co-sleeper is lightweight and very easy to move around too. A co-sleeper is designed to fit right next to an adult bed making it a great option for breastfeeding mothers as if baby is restless you can just lean over and get them to feed. This means you and baby will get a better night’s sleep. A co-sleeper cot can also be great for twins as you can lay them together and also close to you. The co-sleep cot also is easy to fold up and can be used as a changing able or travel cot.

Moses Basket – A Moses basket is a popular option among parents. It is a cosy sleeping basket for the first 6 months of your baby’s life. It is easy to transport too and lightweight. They usually come with a mattress so you don’t have to worry about this and the basket also has a hood. Moses baskets are a great transition unit for going into a cot however are not really economical because other types of baby cots allow for the baby to grow beyond 6 months and can last into the toddlers years. A Moses basket is only used for the first 6 months. It can be a great alternative to a travel cot though.

Cot for babies come in many different forms and choosing one that suits your needs is crucial for you to get the most out of it. Some baby cot beds can be converted to toddler beds so to save money this maybe another option you can consider. You may find that your best option overall is a standard cot plus a travel cot for travelling, however a travel cot may only be necessary if you decide co-sleeping is the way you wish to go.

Of course though, just as important as a cot for baby is the cot mattress, so make sure you pick a mattress to suit your new baby cot bed.
